A Mix of Modern and Vintage

I’ve always been a fan of vintage fashion. When you find vintage pieces that you fall in love with, it’s more than just another item for your wardrobe. It’s a special little something that has history which you may or may not know.

Everything in this outfit is relatively new stuff except my accessories. My Oscar de la Renta watch, my bracelet and my hat. They all came from people in my family who have passed, which makes them so incredibly special to me. They’re more precious than any designer bag or shoes could mean.

My hat used to belong to my Great Uncle John who passed away, what seems like last year, but it’s been quite awhile. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. This was one of his hats that he wore on his adventures and when I wear it, I feel like I should be doing something special! Although I know he wouldn’t care what I was doing while wearing it, as long as I was happy. He was a caring and joyful man to be around. I’d also like to note that I now know where my giant head comes from… because this hat fits me perfectly, thanks Uncle John!

My watch (which doesn’t work) and bracelet are both from my Great Grandmother who passed away a few years ago at the ripe age of 100. When she was alive and we would go visit her down in Galveston she would give my mom, sister and I tons and tons of jewelry and tell us “I don’t care what you do with it after I die, I just know I gave it to you and that makes me feel better”. I haven’t thrown or given away any of the jewelry she gave me.

I encourage everyone to cherish vintage pieces, either from your own family or a flea market. If you don’t know the story behind them, make one up! Because fashion is so much more fun when your wardrobe means something to you.
